ABOUT

I've spent about five years writing backend-heavy full stack code, most recently at Eventbrite. The work I like best sits close to the data, things like event-driven services and the pipelines behind them, the parts that have to stay fast when traffic spikes. I'm happy taking something from a rough idea all the way to a deployed service, and I care about the interface on top of it as much as the plumbing underneath.

The work I'm most pleased with: an A/B test that added roughly 14,000 orders a month, a resume parser that ran across more than 100 million profiles, and an ETL rewrite that halved our compute bill. Away from the desk I ride, solve cubes, follow the markets too closely, and take photos. Most of that is somewhere on this site.

And about the name: it's Viral, said "vi-ra-l", three quick beats. Some read it "Y-ral," like the thing that takes down servers; others stretch it to "vi-raal." Both are wrong, both are fine, and I answer to all three. The domain, clearly, picked a side.
